The main Atlantic 252 on-air studio, October 1995

The ‘Cartouche’ play out computer can be seen on right hand side of the shot.

Crashing frequently, it was always a good idea to have a backup CD and carts on hand!

The backup studio, December 1995

This shot was taken whilst the studio was undergoing maintenance, as a consequence the acoustic panels were missing from the walls.

If you look closely on the right you’ll see some of the jocks decided to sign the wall for posterity.

The production booth, October 1995

A quite basic setup, although facilities were improved in 1996.

At this time the majority of production for the station was made using a four track reel to reel machine, along with minidisc and cart players.

A basic effects machine meant those willing to experiment could come up with all sorts of creative effects that gave Atlantic it’s signature on-air sound.

Mornington House, December 1995

The big ‘pink’ house in Trim, County Meath was the home of Atlantic 252.

The top left window at this time was the main on-air studio , the backup studio top right.

Dan Francisco’s battered Peugeot 405 can be seen in the foreground of the picture.

Jus’ Plain Jo, on-air November 1995

Shot of Jus’ Plain Jo starting his overnight shift in November 1995.

A gruelling test for any presenter, running 0000 – 0600 each morning.

Pizzaman, on-air August 1996

Pizzaman presenting evenings 1800 – 2200 in August 1996.

Following changes in station management in early 1996, shifts were changed from five hour (and sometimes six hour stints) to the more standard radio four hour shifts.

Presenters in the production studio, June 1997

From L to R, Pizzaman, Elvis O’Brien and Wayne Scales in the re-vamped production studio.

Jobs to be completed were written on the wipe board and split between everyone who knew how to work the production kit.

Light denim was definitely in fashion back in the mid nineties!!

Pizzaman leans on his legendary massive rack of carts which DJs used for their own personal music beds and idents during their shows.

Dan holds a stack of newly made production on carts ready to go in the studio rack.

Atlantic 252 sales brochure, August 1997

A brochure used by the sales team to promote the station and the audience it could deliver to advertisers.  Mailed out to media buyers across the UK in August 1997.

Interesting how pictures of the on-air team weren’t used, and instead the brochure was filled with young, hip, cool looking models of the brit pop era…faces for radio perhaps?!

Promotional Merchandise, July 1996

Several items used to promote the station to potential advertisers.

These include a bottle of ‘Schotts’ Alcoholic Seltzer, a custom spot cream pack and a pen/keyring combo.

Pics from the early 1990s

Thanks to ANDY C for sending in these terrific photographs from the early days of 252 at Mornington House.

The reception desk and production studio eventually swapped places, great to see the original set up from the early 1990s.

Many thanks Andy!

Atlantic 252 stationery

The station underwent a subtle re-brand in 1996, here are examples of the old logo vs the new.

Cassette (remember those?) inlays, a letter head and a compliment slip.  How many people received these in the post, either with prizes or a demo tape rejection letter?!
